On January 18th I’ll be scoring a special presentation of Charlie Chaplin’s The Gold Rush at the Hollywood American Legion. I’m incredibly honored that the Chaplin Estate has given special permission for me to accompany the film! Ordinarily they only allow his films to be screened with the recorded score so this is a once in a lifetime event! The screening is presented through a partnership with Retroformat and Hollywood American Legion Post 43, it’s been a real pleasure bringing this screening to life with them.
I’ve been working with Kasimoff Blüthner Piano Co. to bring in a special piano to perform the live score on. This is a dream come true. I fell in love love with this piano when it was brought in to the Egyptian for me to play the 90th anniversary of Robin Hood and I never forgot it. The tones are so beautiful and this exact piano was played by so many talented people including Henry Mancini!
If you have not been to the newly renovated Hollywood Legion Theatre you are in for a real treat! It is amazing! This film print is going to look gorgeous on the brand new screen. Being in this theatre is like being in a rich technicolor dream from the golden era of Hollywood. It’s sure to be a night to remember!
VIP tickets are already sold out but there are still a bunch of General admission tickets and there really is not a bad seat in the house!
I hope to see you there! Click here for tickets! If you can’t make it but would like to support Retroformat and this historical screening you can donate here!
